Pre-Kindergarten - Creative Arts
Self-expression, observation, exploration, and imagination – Our pre-kindergarteners are exposed to a variety of visual and musical styles and artists from which comparative studies lead to greater appreciation.
Visual Arts – Building on basic skills learned in preschool, concepts are refined through the introduction to still life, overlapping, and composition. Our pre-kindergarten art room provides children with access to a variety of materials, which they are both taught to manipulate and encouraged to explore and combine. Clay, yarn, feathers, beads, watercolors, colored pencils, tissue paper, pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, pom-poms, and glitter are some of the materials available on a daily basis.
Performing Arts – Our pre-kindergartners are known for “taking their show on the road.” Songs are sung, stories are acted, and dances are danced in front of audiences around the school. Within this domain our teachers focus on group awareness and understanding the emotions that propel a story or piece of music. Throughout the year our parents are invited to attend end of the day performances showcasing various new skills.
