Preschool - Creative Arts

Communication, discovery, observation, and imagination – our preschoolers are challenged with a variety of materials and activities that support the growth of their fine and gross motor skills in the context of both visual and performing arts.

Visual Arts – Individual exploration of materials and teacher led activities fosters the development of the following basic skills: drawing, painting, cutting, gluing, lacing, and beading.  Through the framework of the MCC Drawing Curriculum, our preschoolers learn to draw simple objects by describing the basic elements they see, to mix colors and create light and dark shades, and are introduced to concepts of proportion related to foreground and background.

Performing Arts – Storytelling, dancing, and singing are a part of our preschoolers’ everyday routine.  Our teachers guide our children in becoming characters from stories and in acting out roles through dramatic play.  We introduce children to a variety of music to explore space, movement and expression.  Songs sung throughout the day innately enhance language development and introduce rhythm and patterns.
